Terrorists Attack Army Camp in Kashmir's Bandipora District, Hurl Grenades

Srinagar: Militants on Tuesday late evening attacked an army camp in Hajin area of north Kashmir's Bandipora district, police said.

Official sources said that a group of militants opened indiscriminate fire upon the Army's 13 Rashtriya Rifles camp, which also has a police station and Special Operations Group camp in the vicinity.

A senior army officer confirmed the attack and said that the 'fidayeen attack' possibility cannot be ruled out. This is the first big attack after suspension of Army operations or Ramzan ceasefire.

Additional reinforcements of army's Para Commandos have been called and are being rushed to the spot, sources said.

The militants also lobbed grenades using underbarrel grenade launchers at the camp. Around four to six militants hurled grenades at the camp, adjacent to the police station, from two sides. There are reports that the terrorists also tried to storm the police station.

When this report was filed, the intense firing was going on in the area. Sources said that announcements were made via public address system asking people to come out on streets following which clashes erupted near the site.
